Mindful breath and movement in the early childhood classroom

Description of Workshop:

RCS 1st grade teachers, Rachel Hagen and Josie Hoban will lead this workshop, focusing on engaging ways to call in mindfulness to our breath and movement in the early childhood classroom.  

Josie and Rachel will provide examples of breathing exercises, mindful movement & yoga as well as fun games and activities that encourage children to channel their intention and be in touch with their energy.

 

Rachel Hagen

Rachel has been joyfully teaching 1stgrade at RCS for 10 years.  She is passionate about holistic education and loves the challenge of integrating the 7 domains into all she does with her students at Rainbow.  She has an undergraduate degree from George Washington University in Psychology (Concentration in Early Childhood Development) and a Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education. She holds a N.C. teaching license and elementary grades certification.

Rachel enjoys creating learning experiences that make the subject matter both exciting and meaningful for her students. Rachel has found that opportunities for mindfulness abound in the early childhood classroom and enjoys exploring these with her students.

In her free time, Rachel and her children love to spend time with friends and family, cook, dance, go on adventures and celebrate the seasons.

Josie Hoban

Josie has her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and has been an educator for over 10 years teaching abroad in Europe and Asia. She is a certified TESOL instructor, yoga instructor for adults and children, and Positive Discipline Classroom Educator.

This is her third year at Rainbow and second year working with Rachel in first grade.  She enjoys gardening, yoga, and animals, especially dogs. Josie feels enthusiastic about sharing some of the many activities that her students have found engaging, delightful and helpful.
