Halloween Celebration and Parade

Happy Halloween!

If you were on Rainbow’s campus today, you might have been spooked.

Ghosts and goblins roamed the forest, flanked by aliens, tigers, bears, wizards and other magical creatures for the most frightful day of the year: HALLOWEEN!

First, Kindergarten sang some ghostly songs. Preschool chimed in, too.

Then each grade paraded around, valiantly confronting whatever bear, cupid, witch or robot they encountered along the way…

Then students departed the meeting grounds in search of spooky treats in not-so-scary places!

Field Day at Rainbow

Field Day at Rainbow

Our student council voted earlier in the year to do a field day at the end of the year.

They’re making great strides at making a difference in their community.

We began with a welcome ceremony at 10:30 in the morning. Students lined up according to their color.

Students listened as we talked about rules, safety and good sportsmanship.

Students in each class were divided by names, letters and their rainbow colors.

Each class marched to a station where they waited to hear a horn. Once they heard the signal, they began their activities.

Once they completed going to all the different stations, they met back on the playground for watermelon.

Everyone had a chance to spit seeds and talk with each other while referees calculated the points for the winning team.

And wouldn’t you know, everyone was a winner!

Rainbow’s Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the Playground

Today was a special day at Rainbow Community School.

We had a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for our new playground!

The Chamber of Commerce came to the school to help us host the event and we gathered as a community to celebrate our new playground.

It’s been a long while in the making: all last year, our students found places to play everywhere except the current playground!

Our hero, Max, is really the one who helped make our vision a reality and a special thank you to him for being the go-to person for all things “playground.”

Enjoy an awesome picture slideshow of our ceremony today!

Gnome Village Comes to Life at Rainbow Mountain

Gnome Village

The Gnome Village is being installed. Max, our incredible facilities manager, along with Asheville Playgrounds, have designed what may end up being the most creative and exciting play structure in Asheville. Last week they began installing the main posts which Max, along with wonderful parent helpers,  hand harvested. The post are locust wood– the strongest, longest-lasting wood available.  Hand railings will be made of local laurel — also hand harvested and strong.  The roofing will have cedar shingles.

Asheville Playgrounds has the best reputation in town for imaginative, safe structures.  They have been great to work with, and obviously really know what they are doing!  The basic structure is expected to be complete in the next 3 to 6 weeks, with some detail work remaining after that.

We are very excited to see our playground metamorphosing into the beautiful, creative, space we knew it could be.
