Our third graders are becoming chefs!

RCS third graders are taking field trips to the home of our friend (and classmate's grandparent), Becky, for a series of cooking lessons. Each student has a binder full of information about nutrition, cooking basics, and recipes. These visits are full of rich multigenerational experiences, with parent volunteers also joining in the fun. Each week the children taste new foods and make recipes that Becky has crafted to tie into their Mesopotamian studies. Our kindergarten students are learning about trees and took a field trip to Bent Creek last week for some field research about trees and their inhabitants. This time immersed in the natural domain offered both opportunities for learning and for connection to the natural world.

Rainbow preschool and kindergarten students engage their senses as they learn their letters through multisensory activities such as:
- placing stones or objects over printed letters
- forming letters with play dough
- tracing sandpaper letters
- dipping a finger in water and tracing letters or words written on chalkboards
- writing letters in sand trays

These fun and engaging activities build a strong foundation for both reading and writing. Watching our children's literacy skills bloom is a magical experience!

Generating income, caring for a family, owning pro

Generating income, caring for a family, owning property, running for office, creating laws, and being held accountable through town halls are all part of a democracy simulation , called Civic Mirror, that our Omega 7th and 8th graders are engaging with as part of their social studies curriculum.

Our two social studies classes have each created their own countries with laws based on the U.S. Constitution. There is a lot of room for student input and creativity in terms of how laws of the country are passed and carried out. Each student has a bank account and a fictional family to care for, and they also have the opportunity for property ownership and some ways to generate income. The project includes an election in which students developed political parties and policy platforms and candidates gave speeches to their fellow citizens. A tied vote cast the fictional countries into turmoil and provided additional opportunities to dive deeper into governance policy. These kids are learning so much through this experiential project!
