Positive Risk Taking and Resilience - The social i Positive Risk Taking and Resilience - The social impact of failure becomes a more significant factor in the elementary child’s learning environment, requiring educators who can support students' own ability to face challenges with tools for resilience and perseverance. The elementary years are a critical foundation for long term healthy identity development and strong habits of learning.

Our fourth graders recently closed out their ancient civilizations unit with a lively performance about Egyptian mythology. This production engaged students in six of the Rainbow Seven Domains™:

Mental Domain - Students made meaning out of the content and memorization of lines.

Social Domain - Students collaborated and played off of each other as well as encouraged each other when they had challenges.

Creative Domain - Students learned about the importance of key elements like props, setting, costumes and sound effects.

Emotional Domain - Students were challenged to consider the perspective of their characters and to think about how tone of voice and facial expressions help to convey a character's emotions. They also overcame their discomfort or embarrassment about performing.

Spiritual Domain - The play connected student learning about Egyptian mythology with how the ancient Egyptians explored the big, unanswerable questions of the universe.

Physical Domain - The class blocked scenes and learned how to use their bodies to engage in physical comedy.

We love seeing the seven domains at work and It is inspiring to witness the way these kids take on challenges and come together to support one another and grow together. It is now a few weeks later and the kids (and their parents) are still talking about this incredible performance!

Guided Choice and Increased Autonomy - Essential t Guided Choice and Increased Autonomy - Essential to the adolescent years, our middle school program ensures that student autonomy is nurtured, student passions are celebrated, and young people are reinforced in their own ability to work through difficulty and challenge. This culture of guided independence is strengthened by the depth of relationship fostered between the students and their teachers.

At the end of every quarter, students have an opportunity to showcase what they have been learning in their Elective classes. The passions and talents of our students are always a joy to witness. Here are just a few highlights from our Quarter 3 Electives from courses that include: Spanish, Printmaking, Rock Band, Visual Storytelling, Scriptwriting, Stop Motion, Team Sports, Pickleball, and Baking.

It's Throwback Thursday! Our seventh and eighth It's Throwback Thursday!

Our seventh and eighth grade classes take an educational overnight trip in the spring of every school year, alternating between a science-focused trip to Tybee Island and a trip to Atlanta and Birmingham that is focused on the Civil Rights Movement and Social Justice. Since our current students are just beginning preparations for their Social Justice trip, we thought it would be a great time to look back at the first Social Justice trip our students took in 2024.

Social Justice trips, lead by @CultureValue, allow students to deepen their knowledge and understanding of the Civil Rights Movement. This trip takes students from the National Center for Civil and Human Rights in Atlanta to Birmingham, where they visit historic sites such as the 16th Street Baptist Church and the AG Gaston Motel. This trip offers so many rich and meaningful experiences and we are excited to share this experience with our current group of students.
