It's Throwback Thursday and this week we are doing

It's Throwback Thursday and this week we are doing just a little hop back in time to this magical moment in January when our second graders were presented with a book they had authored and published together!

The book was written in the fall as part of their Cherokee unit and their limited edition publication took some time to get into their hands. "At the Rainbow's End" is dedicated to the Cherokee people and the stories they tell. The book is a sweet tale about animals who set out to locate a special place that values Beauty, Truth, and Goodness (Rainbow values!) in which their children to learn and grow. After a storm, the animals decide to see what is at the rainbow's end. Their journey leads them to a beautiful meadow where they meet a trickster rabbit who is afraid to share such an ideal location. Lessons are learned, friendships are made, and the animals all decided to live together in the beautiful meadow where their children could learn about Beauty, Truth, and Goodness together.

Can you guess what that meadow is called? They called it Rainbow!

Using tools like rubrics, peer conferencing, teacher feedback and group discussions, students learn that reflection leads to refinement in their learning and skill building. It celebrates the final product while also ensuring that the process is centered in a student's learning values.
