Did you happen to catch our third graders performi

Did you happen to catch our third graders performing with Billy Jonas at LEAF yesterday?!

Our third grade class had a wonderful opportunity to work with Billy Jonas through the LEAF Visiting Artist Teaching Residency program. During their time in class with Billy, they collaborated to write a song titled "Take Care of the World" and created handmade percussion instruments. They performed their song in front of a crowd at the Lake Eden Arts Festival yesterday and rocked it! Thank you so much to @billyjonasmusic and @leafglobalarts for making this experience magical for our students.

It's Fall Break! RCS will be closed for Fall Break through Friday, October 17th. We hope you have an opportunity to get outside to spend some time in nature during your time off. Last week, our first graders hiked the Buck Springs Trail to kick off their Appalachian Unit. We hope you are inspired by these photos of their time there!

Today was the last day of first quarter electives

Today was the last day of first quarter electives for our Omega Middle School students and they treated us to an amazing showcase of the work they did in their elective classes. Here are just a few highlights from the electives showcase that included a student podcast (Podcasting Elective), a beautiful new cover to protect our fire pit (Creating Sacred Spaces Elective), a new mural installation (Drawing and Painting Elective), examples of work from the Elements of Art Elective, creative and fun game designs (Board Games Elective), a song and skit about The Hero's Journey (Foundations Elective), and a mini concert (Rock Band Elective). We can't wait to see what these kids do in their upcoming quarter two electives!

Our second graders just started a unit about the Cherokee and their importance in our community. They begin each school day with a land acknowledgement that we would like to share with you for Indigenous People's Day along with some photos of our beautiful campus and students connecting with the land that holds our community.

"We would like to acknowledge that we live and learn on the traditional land of the Cherokee, who have taken care of this land for generations. We pay respect to their elders both past and present."
