Katherine Ayachi – First Grade Lead Teacher

Katherine wanted to be a teacher from the time she was in high school. She was a NC Teaching Fellow at Appalachian State and began her teaching career in Greensboro, NC. After a few years of teaching fifth grade, she had an itch to travel and see the world. A second grade teaching position at the American Cooperative School of Tunis in Tunisia fell in her lap, and she picked it up and ran with it. After moving to Tunisia, she met her future husband. In the twenty-six years she spent in Tunisia, she married, had and raised three children, taught most grades in elementary school and worked as a reading support teacher for a number of years. In 2022, the whole family began to want a change, and since Asheville had been a homebase for vacations for a number of years, they decided to make the giant leap and move to the U.S.

Katherine was so excited to become the first grade lead teacher at RCS. She feels at home with the school culture, the colleagues and students, and is excited to continue her educational journey in our community.

Katherine enjoys being with friends and family, hiking and yoga. She appreciates a steady rhythm of life and seasons and always feels at home in a school setting. She lives in West Asheville with her husband and youngest daughter.
