Laura Blackley

Laura Blackley, P-8 Music Teacher

Laura was a substitute at Rainbow (in Music as well as other classrooms) starting in 2018 and stepped into the role of music teacher in 2021. She is grateful to share the joy of music with Rainbow’s students as their music teacher.

Laura began teaching as a Chorus Instructor at Asheville Musicworks, a program designed to teach life skills to children through the daily practice of making music together as a community. She has also worked as a Teaching Artist in NC schools, developing and presenting a curriculum designed to familiarize elementary through high school students with NC Piedmont Blues musicians. She and her band Laura Blackley & the Wildflowers took first place in the 2016 North Carolina Piedmont Blues Preservation Society’s annual Blues Challenge.

Laura enjoys playing music with friends, reading, hiking, growing brambles and flowers, and studying local histories and folklore. She lives with her daughter Mavis in the beautiful Hominy Valley of Candler, NC.
