Trey Thompson – 4th – 8th Grade Division Head
Trey is an experienced and award-winning educator with professional teaching and leadership experience in a diverse set of educational organizations. Trey has a practice rooted in the theory of constructivism, critical pedagogy, and transdisciplinary inquiry. As an educator, he sees the transformative power of relationships, a love of learning, student agency, and play as integral parts of education. These values lead Trey to Rainbow and its holistic education model rooted in the seven domains.
As the 4-8 Division head, Trey is guided by his value of relationships. He believes that communities function best when each human is honored and valued. He works collaboratively with teachers, staff, students, families, and the broader community to ensure that individuals can experience their fullness and the joy of meaningful relationships with each other and the earth.
Trey holds a BS in Elementary Education from Kansas State University and an M.Ed. in Urban Education from National Louis University. Additionally, Trey is trained and has experience in environmental education, circle keeping, design thinking, responsive classroom management, and instructional coaching.
Trey enjoys spending time with his wife, Alisha, and three kids, Gabriela, Arlo, and Eldon. He feels most content and joyful when he is outside. He loves gardening, riding bikes, hiking, and working with his hands. If he is not at Rainbow or with his family, you will most likely find him in the woods playing disc golf.
