Rainbow Community School Upper Campus
Tour of select classrooms
Our first grade classroom is located in “Rainbow Row,” along with fourth grade, and fifth grade along the main deck of our upper campus. Blue Door and Green Door Preschool are located in the lower level of Rainbow Row and open out onto the K-8 playground. Rainbow Row has a passive solar design, and the classrooms themselves have features that make students feel at home.
Our upper campus also has our Student Support building where students participating in our student support program receive tutoring or counseling services.
Our beautiful campus
Once you step foot on the RCS campus, you’ll at once appreciate all the outdoor spaces conducive to community-building and learning. We have an outdoor classroom in which all grades can spread out and participate in learning activities. The fire circle also serves as a communal spot for students and families to gather to mark important ceremonies throughout the school year. Our campus is also a designated bird sanctuary. We have also won awards such as the North Carolina Green Schools award for our efforts at making our buildings and grounds sustainable spaces.
RCS Outdoor Spaces
Our playgrounds are designed to encourage play and community among our students. The Gnome Village in our K-8 playground encourages imaginative play and innovation. The PreK playground has many different stations to encourage students to get plenty of exercise and have lots of fun while doing so. The Omega courtyard features picnic tables and structures to encourage students to study and work outside as much as possible. All classes have outdoor time each day.
Our lower campus
Our lower campus houses our Omega Middle School: the sixth grade classroom, the seventh and eighth grade Social Studies and Science classrooms, the Spanish classroom, music, the Rainbow Community School Community Center and auditorium, as well as our athletic fields, pavilion, the Cottage, and the Omega courtyard.
