Rainbow Community School was established in 1977, igniting a dream of providing a spiritually grounded and inspired learning environment. For half a century, Rainbow’s excellence in holistic learning, trademarked through the Rainbow Seven Domains™, has captured the power of an intentional curriculum designed for lifelong thriving.
Now, primed to embark on a campus redesign, we embrace the full potential of our landscape and move into our next 50 years of service and leadership.
The Green Heart captures the paramount needs of our community, collected over several years of school-wide summits and collaborative meetings. Initiated in 2019 with a community-wide appreciative inquiry summit and reinforced in 2023 through a collaborative master planning process with Altura Architects, the Green Heart is a manifestation of a collective vision of Rainbow’s stakeholders.

A New Vision for Campus
The Green Heart will fundamentally change the flow of our campus, ensuring all green space is centralized, pedestrian-friendly, and thoughtfully designed, maintaining the soul of our school while improving the function and beauty of the natural areas. Additionally, this plan pushes all of the parking to the perimeter of the campus for better traffic flow and safety.
Fortunately, we have received support from a few neighboring businesses, lending us use of their parking facilities as we continue to run summer programming through the construction process. We are grateful for the power of community care.
Transformation is messy, and our campus will be in a state of evolution throughout the summer.
In the coming weeks, we look forward to bringing forth a new vision of our beautiful green campus, planting new trees and gardens, to contribute to the next 50 years of thriving for Rainbow and our West Asheville community.
