We did a thing!

Kaleidoscope is a reformatted series created to give our community a closer look at the intentional work happening at Rainbow Community School and Omega Middle School. Through short videos and downloadable companion articles for deeper learning, we explore the ideas and practices that support students’ growth, independence, and love of learning. We’re excited to share these reflections as an invitation to learn more about our approach and engage in conversations within and beyond our community.

Each episode of Kaleidoscope can be accessed by watching a video or reading the blog. We also have a downloadable Companion Guide with additional resources!

Critical Thinking - Our students practice the abil

Critical Thinking - Our students practice the ability to analyze information and experiences from multiple perspectives, helping them draw conclusions with a comprehensive understanding. They are empowered with independent thought and encouraged to voice their ideas and opinions and consider the thoughts of others.

You can see this come to life through the poetry and art our Omega 7/8 students have created in their study of the Civil Rights Movement. Students were asked to write a biographical poem about Civil Rights leaders in which they were challenged to consider and include: things the person may have loved, things they may have feared, and things they wanted to accomplish or achieve. Accompanying their poetry is an impressive gallery of grid portraits - a method of using a grid to help the artist replicate an image. The culmination of this work is beautiful and powerful - we highly recommend viewing it in its entirety!
