Composting and ecosystems! Our fifth graders have

Composting and ecosystems!

Our fifth graders have been learning to identify ecosystems on our campus. The students each drew one and identified the biotic and abiotic factors that exist within those ecosystems. Next, they honed in on a unique ecosystem on our campus… our compost bin! Each year, the fifth grade class takes care of composting on our school campus. Students have been learning about composting and designed posters and presentations to teach the rest of the school about composting. They delivered compost buckets to each class, showed us what kinds of food scraps can be composted, and will collect the buckets to compost our food waste throughout the year. We are so proud of their leadership!

Our preschool through fifth graders have been lear

Our preschool through fifth graders have been learning about the element of line in art class. Preschoolers created self portraits, focusing on the lines in their faces. Kindergarteners drew symmetrical butterflies and layered line patterns. First graders painted trees and landscapes with swirling lines. Second and third graders made communities from guided line drawings. Fourth graders explored radial symmetry as they created beautiful nature mandalas and our fifth graders created sun and moon images to celebrate the balance of the equinox. We hope you enjoy this glimpse into their works in progress!

Beautiful things happen when math and art combine!

Last Friday our 8th Grade Math and Math 2 students came together to participate in a string art workshop led by our dear friend, John Bickart. They expanded their exploration of linear relationships into the spiritual and creative domains by using only lines to create stunning and beautiful designs.
