Winter time is a perfect time to come together in community! The whole family is invited to this free funky fun dance party at the Rainbow Community Center in the auditorium at 60 State Street, from 3pm to 5pm on Saturday, February 4th. Preschoolers through Middleschoolers are encouraged to get up on the stage and boogie to their favorite tunes. Rainbow students don’t often get the chance to romp and sway, groove and bounce on the auditorium stage. This is the perfect opportunity to let your kids move their bodies in whatever authentic ways they are inspired to while we gather and mingle in community!
Welcome to our two new Student Support interns, Brittany and Lydia! Brittany Wagner and Lydia Rose are students in the Occupational Therapy program at AB Tech. We are so lucky that they will be working with Student Support students on Tuesdays for the next 9 weeks. After doing farm to school and food systems work for a local non profit for the past five years, Brittany decided it was time for a career change and fell in love with occupational therapy. Lydia has been a preschool teacher on and off since she graduated from Appalachian State in 1994 and now lives in Asheville, her new found soul home, with her son. Both are so grateful to be interning at Rainbow and can’t wait to get started. We hope you have a terrific first day!

You’ll also have a chance to order an energy kit filled with energy efficient materials for your home such as energy efficient light bulbs and a water conservation showerhead. As a community, how effective can we be in creating investment among our children to be more concsious of their energy use?
Play Synopsis:
Energy is being wasted everywhere you look, but Nikki Neutron and The Energized Guyz are here to help! The Conservation Caper is a theatrical program designed to engage elementary students in green living and saving energy. In this 25-minute educational play, Nikki takes on Dr. Maybe, a villain bent on wasting water and energy, and shows our students how we all can do our part to save energy.
In fact, The Conservation Caper has a goal to save 10 million kilowatt hours of energy during the 2016-17 school year. Will you join this mission?

We are the Rainbow Standing Rock Delegation; Wendy Sause, Elijah White, Bronwyn White, Cara Hanna, Bob Hannah, and Danielle Hanna, traveling to Standing Rock to provide much needed supplies with the money you donate to this Rainbow Delegation Fund.
We are students, parents, alumni, and teachers at Rainbow Community School in Asheville, North Carolina whose hearts are heavy as we watch our water sources destabilized, the indigenous people of this land dishonored, native sacred sites destroyed, and our children’s futures dismissed as we fail to act on climate change.
Even more importantly, we are a community of whole-hearted learners committed to a transformational journey through compassionate service. Each morning when we turn to face our students we feel it in our bodies as we are undeniably initiated into a sacred contract of leadership. We are not only our students’ advocates and teachers, but their elders and role models. We are not only their parents and counselors, but their mentors and advisors. Our dedication to holistic education, to nurturing our students’ spiritual insight as well as their political power, moves us to take action now at this critical moment in American history.
After months of sustained effort by an indigenous lead coalition to redirect, or preferably shut down, the Dakota Access Pipeline away from traditional Sioux land, Rainbow is now joining this movement.
