Kate Brantley – PreK – 3rd Division Head
Kate is thrilled to join Rainbow Community School as a new administrator starting in June, 2020.
As the P-3 Division Head, Kate works collaboratively with Rainbow’s admin team, the early elementary teachers, families and students to ensure that all children are set up for success in their learning experiences through all 7 domains. She views the image of the child as a competent, capable and curious learner and strives to maintain partnerships with the families of Rainbow so that we are working together on this educational journey.
Kate has extensive experience in the field of Early Childhood Education and is a Level III Administrator in a licensed preschool setting. She also has her BA in English:Creative Writing from High Point University, as well as her M.Ed. in Elementary Education from Boston University. Kate has taught reading through the Orton-Gillingham multisensory method and also is interested in Piaget’s schema theory, loose parts and natural outdoor learning environments, and the Reggio Emilia approach, also known as constructivism.
For the past 9 years, Kate served as Early Childhood Director at Shalom Children’s Center of the Asheville Jewish Community Center. While there, Kate was able to work with children and families during the crucial time of child development, as well as enfuse a secular curriculum with universal values through a Jewish lens. Prior to that, Kate taught Kindergarten at Evergreen Community Charter School and K-2 at Maccabi Academy of Asheville. She also has experience teaching preschool at Head Start, and in Boston, MA at The Apple Orchard School, The Park School and The LEAP School.
Kate comes to Rainbow with an openness to learn about the 7 domains model and how to best support the community within her role and expertise.
When she is not working at Rainbow, Kate and her family enjoy hiking, playing in creeks, running and riding bikes around Asheville. She also likes to cook and bake, create art and spend time with friends. Kate lives with her husband Cameron and their 2 children, Jeff who is 5 and Harper who is 12. Both kids attend Evergreen where Cameron is the K-4 Associate Director. Once she is able, Kate is looking forward to attending trivia nights and hearing live music again!
