Rainbow Community School Student Testing Results

Rainbow Students Have Many Opportunities For Assessment

Students at Rainbow demonstrate above average competency. However, we believe that student testing is one of many indicators to help us determine students’ strengths. Rainbow usually tests students during the first month of school – even before students have had a full review from being gone over the summer.

This allows teachers to see a “baseline” result. They use that information to hone their practices and tailor the curriculum to help them meet students right where they are. It is only one measure of multiple assessments Rainbow uses to determine student progress. Throughout the year, students peer-review each other, create portfolios, follow rubrics to self-guide their progress, display their expertise in real-world situations, give presentations to the community, present their research to their classroom community as the culmination of a unit they were studying, with many other opportunities for assessments and evaluations. We believe this fuels maximum personal and academic growth.

Recently, Parent Council convened to hear from our ED, Renee Owen, to see and understand more about student testing data at Rainbow. Although we recorded the video in one sitting, due to memory size and limitations, the videos are divided into three segments:

Resources, PDFs and Test Results

We also have PDFs and links to the resources Renee referred to in the videos.

First are the CTP results across grades. Refer to page 1 of the PDF, or ask your child’s classroom teacher for clarification in interpreting test results.

Next is a compiled table of the test results. Keep in mind that Rainbow’s curriculum is designed to provide students a broad foundation, based on best-practices and principles of school systems around the world, as well as the stages of child development. Because of this, students’ talents and abilities really come together in the Omega years.

We also wanted to reference an annotated bibliography one of our teachers (Jessica Redford, our Kindergarten master teacher) compiled for work on the global achievement gap. Rainbow works very diligently and intentionally to maintain the balance between academics, and a student’s physical, social, emotional, and spiritual well-being. Refer to the Seven Domains Model Rainbow uses as an integral part of its curriculum.

In addition, Jessica also completed a multimedia book review on the topic:

The Global Achievement Gap

We believe that children deserve an education in which “the learning experience is a comprehensive integration not only of traditional academic subjects, but of the many facets that comprise a human being.”
