Rainbow Community Food Drive – A Success!

Our Third Grade Otters are making a difference!

They held a food drive so that families in the area would have food during the Thanksgiving holiday.

What a food drive it was!

The entire school participated and brought in so much food, here’s what West, our 3rd grade teacher reported:

The pantry at children first went from being almost from almost entirely empty to so full that we had to stop unloading boxes!

Indeed! Rainbow Community School and the 3rd graders delivered enough food to feed over 200 children.

Thank you to the Rainbow Community for helping us with this project. We were moved when we found out that 1 in 2 children in public school in the city of Asheville do not have enough to eat. Rainbow Community School is definitely committed to helping make a difference right here in our Asheville community.

Rainbow’s Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the Playground

Today was a special day at Rainbow Community School.

We had a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for our new playground!

The Chamber of Commerce came to the school to help us host the event and we gathered as a community to celebrate our new playground.

It’s been a long while in the making: all last year, our students found places to play everywhere except the current playground!

Our hero, Max, is really the one who helped make our vision a reality and a special thank you to him for being the go-to person for all things “playground.”

Enjoy an awesome picture slideshow of our ceremony today!

Grandparents’ Tea at Rainbow Mountain

Grandparents’ Tea at Rainbow Mountain

grandparent tea 2Last week, and every year, Rainbow Mountain students invite their grandparents, or other special elders, to their school for coffee and tea. The grandparents meet each other, nibble on homemade treats, and are entertained by a few classes. This year preschoolers and second/third graders sang in Spanish, fourth graders played recorders, fifth/sixth sang a song and kindergarten recited a poem.

After the social the grandparents visit in their grandchild’s classroom. We really enjoy hosting this event and hope our guest went home happy and full.
