Is that Elijah on the tractor? Omega Middle School students started their afternoon elective courses. These 7th and 8th grade students chose “Facilities Management with Max” as one of their electives. They are currently installing a trail from the old campus to the new. This is real learning! (Blisters included.) Other electives offered this year: computer coding, sacred geometry, drama, home ec projects, changemaking through service, 3-D Printing/computer engineering, plus a host of music and art electives.

The Harvest Hoedown the Best in RCS History!
We outdid ourselves!
The Hoedown was a smashing success!
So many wonderful faces, costumes, and friends came to enjoy the day.
We want to extend a special thank you to parent Stephanie Cody for coordinating the event. We’re also grateful for all the parents who put hours of work and energy to pull the Hoedown off.
Thank you also to all of our business sponsors and businesses who donated to the Hoedown.
There was a booth for fairy hair. There was a booth to take photos (stay tuned to our Facebook page to find your photo!), a cakewalk, a “wine” walk, face painting, and much more.
We had bouncy houses, haunted houses, and magicians.
Family. Food. Fun. And lots of photos!
Enjoy a slideshow of all the photos of the day.

With its holistic learning environment, and our research-based methods to elicit creative and critical thinking, many wonderful families have become part of the Rainbow family.
New this year to the school is Duncan, a rising second grader. His younger brother Raleigh will attend the Rainbow Community School Pre-school beginning in November when he turns three years of age.
Duncan’s family is relocating here from Ireland.
Along the way, however, they’re making a few stops. They have traveled to Dublin, Amsterdam, London, and Los Angeles. They will make one more stop in the historic Washington, D.C. just before settling in Asheville and beginning the school year.
We look forward to Duncan sharing his experiences with his classmates as he begins second grade. In fact, his experiences will add a lovely flavor to our global initiatives program!
We’re also very excited that Raleigh will be joining our community in November, too.
Welcome to our family!

We Are Making Progress!

We are heading towards our goal of acquiring the church property. We still need help, though.
Take a Tour
We want our community informed. Staff, students, families, and the greater Asheville community deserve to know exactly what Rainbow Community School aims to do: expand the school to increase the good work we do.
We invite you to take a tour. Many in our community have. If you haven’t, our Director, Renee, has been leading tours these past few weeks. There were tours yesterday and today. If you have missed this opportunity, we invite you to call the school to see why we want to expand our school, what our vision is, and how we plan to get there.

Mark Your Calendars!

Come one, come all! We will have our fundraiser over at the church property to help us meet our goal.
Childcare will be at the current RCS campus.
Capital Campaign Update
We are making headway toward our goal!
As of yesterday, we have over $115,000 in donations, pledges and verbal pledges.
But we can’t let our guard down, yet. We still have a ways to go.
We still need to reach our down payment goal of $200,000.
After this, we will still need to make changes to the property to adapt it for the needs of our Rainbow Community. Those costs and repairs are $400,000.
This means we are counting on you to help us reach our goals.
(Note: The Capital Campaign is different from our Annual Campaign. The Capital Campaign is to help us acquire the Church – think The Three C’s. The Annual Campaign helps teachers have supply monies for their classrooms, helps the school fund scholarships, gifts and much more.)

Today was a special day at Rainbow Community School.
We had a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for our new playground!
The Chamber of Commerce came to the school to help us host the event and we gathered as a community to celebrate our new playground.
It’s been a long while in the making: all last year, our students found places to play everywhere except the current playground!
Our hero, Max, is really the one who helped make our vision a reality and a special thank you to him for being the go-to person for all things “playground.”
Enjoy an awesome picture slideshow of our ceremony today!
