I feel so honored to be joining the second grade as an assistant this year. I have previously been on campus as the parent of Thomas (a rising first grader), and as an Omega 7/8 assistant. Now I get to bring my daughter Emma to preschool as I share the second grade experience with you all. My own second grade year was one of my favorites — I discovered my love of reading, made lasting friendships, and spent a good deal of time pretending to be a horse. I can’t wait to read, share, and gallop again!
Background and Experience
I am originally from Connecticut, but have lived in various places around the country and the world. I met my husband (who is originally from the UK) in Ecuador, and we spent several years in Spain before choosing to put down roots in these beautiful mountains.
Our children soon followed, leading to preschool and the beginning of our Rainbow experience. I have been teaching since I was a teenager and worked through the summers as a sailing instructor.
My love of reading and writing then led me to earn my undergraduate and masters degrees in English Literature from the University of Georgia. I also have my teaching license from UNCA and worked as an ELA Teacher in Buncombe County before my daughter’s arrival. I am so excited to be working with this amazing age again and helping them envision the destinations, both real and imaginary, that they will encounter on their educational journey through middle school and beyond.
When I am not at school, I love adventuring with my family, pursuing my hobby of photography, and reading. I welcome any and all book recommendations, puns, and rich conversations.
