Laura Eshelman, Fourth Grade Assistant Teacher

Born and raised in Durham, NC, Laura Eshelman has been an Asheville resident since 2003. She is thrilled to be the fourth grade assistant teacher. She has worked with kids of all ages in a diversity of settings for numerous years, and is delighted to build relationships and bring a sense of whimsy to the classroom.

Laura received her BA from the University of North Carolina, Asheville in 2008 in mass communication.  She then moved to Denver, Colorado to earn a master’s degree in criminal justice, with a master’s certificate in domestic violence prevention from UC Denver, in 2013.  Because she is a lifelong learner/glutton for punishment, she followed this up with a second master’s degree in social work from Western Carolina University, completed in 2016.

A mountain girl through and through, Laura spends as much time as she can exploring the WNC outdoors, splashing in rivers and lakes, camping, and hunting wild mushrooms along hiking trails. She is a self-described kitchen witch who thrives on making and sharing meals, as well as connecting with friends over food and drinks.  Laura loves adventures, whether they involve travel, an excellent book over coffee, or a night out for live music and dancing. She lives in Asheville with her “familiar,” a cat named Schrodinger.
