Rachel Morris – Second Grade Assistant Teacher
Rachel first started working with RCS while in college at UNCA. During this time she volunteered in the first grade classroom and tutored a few students using the Orton Gillingham model of literacy. She is excited to jump back into the Rainbow community in the second grade classroom! Rachel believes in celebrating curiosity and leaning into new experiences.
Education & Experience
Rachel earned her BS in Psychology with a focus in Cognitive Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. While studying, she assisted in research that examined the connection between developing brains in public school classrooms and the rate of attention deficit disorders diagnosed. Rachel is especially interested in curating a learning environment that is tailored to each individual child. She took this into practice during her time working as the Communications Director for Grow Your World, an afterschool program in Durham, NC, that focuses on pairing elementary and middle school students with adult mentors in the community. A strong belief in the power of community is what initially drew Rachel to work with Rainbow Community School.
In her freetime, Rachel loves to cook overly complicated meals for friends, hike right after it rains, and swim in cold water. Rachel is also extremely passionate about the arts. Her love of music and painting comes alive when she teaches. She feels most balanced when she is learning through doing and loves getting to work with students and staff at Rainbow each day.
