When our second graders get an idea, they figure out how to make it happen!

These little entrepreneurs wanted a mud kitchen for their outdoor classroom so they spent time drawing blue prints to share with our Facilities Team, who were happy to help. Our second graders supervised the building process, offering additional suggestions along the way. They have been overjoyed to put the finished kitchen to good use - not only do these kids know how to make a delicious caterpillar roll from mud and leaves, but they also show some savvy business skills with their pricing and customer service. Where else can you get sushi rolls in exchange for shiny rocks or leaves?!

Shout out to Facilities Team, Shaun and Eddie, for making their vision a reality!

Omega 7/8 science students have been learning how $Omega 7/8 science students have been learning how to collect meaningful data and are studying chemistry through the lens of plants, soil, and food science! Over the last few weeks they investigated our garden crops and harvested native aronia berries, used refractometers to test the Brix, tested the pH, and finally made aronia berry syrup. Last week, the sound of clapping and cheering filled the air. We curiously followed the joyful sounds to discover our fourth graders engaged in a heartwarming spelling bee! It was beautiful to witness these students sincerely and enthusiastically supporting one another in their best efforts with cheering, applause, hugs, and high fives.

Composting and ecosystems! Our fifth graders have

Composting and ecosystems!

Our fifth graders have been learning to identify ecosystems on our campus. The students each drew one and identified the biotic and abiotic factors that exist within those ecosystems. Next, they honed in on a unique ecosystem on our campus… our compost bin! Each year, the fifth grade class takes care of composting on our school campus. Students have been learning about composting and designed posters and presentations to teach the rest of the school about composting. They delivered compost buckets to each class, showed us what kinds of food scraps can be composted, and will collect the buckets to compost our food waste throughout the year. We are so proud of their leadership!
