"Peace, happiness and joy is possible during the t "Peace, happiness and joy is possible during the time I drink my tea." - Thich Nhat Hanh

In the Sacred Spaces elective, students were asked to think of ways to enrich spiritual domain experiences on campus. Oftentimes, the ideas generated take the form of creating or beautifying a sacred campus space. This time, a student expressed a desire for a tea stand - a space and time for middle schoolers to start their day grounded in a cup of tea and fellowship with their peers. And a student-driven weekly tea stand was born!

This is a great example of guided choice and increased autonomy at work. Essential to the adolescent years, our middle school program ensures that student autonomy is nurtured, student passions are celebrated, and young people are reinforced in their own ability to work through difficulty and challenge. This culture of guided independence is strengthened by the depth of relationship fostered between the students and their teachers.

As students begin their schooling journey, we fost As students begin their schooling journey, we foster an understanding of community care. This is a critical element of early childhood education, as it sets the foundation for strong engagement in learning as a social and interconnected process. Students begin each school year setting classroom agreements for how to care for one another as well as learning how to engage with caring for their classroom environment and class pets.

Our 5th grade scientists are learning about decomp Our 5th grade scientists are learning about decomposers like detritivores and bacteria. They gathered compost from the school's compost bin and then examined the compost to look for decomposers. Next, they will tally and graph their findings. This lays the groundwork for our 5th graders to take on the leadership role of stewarding Rainbow's compost program and educating other students around the school!
